Sweet Saturday: Daughter Day

A few weeks ago Anna and I enjoyed a day just one on one. We got our nails and toenails done- both in red. Then, after her beauty sleep, I took her to get her hair done.

I felt like the coolest Mom ever (even though I know lots of other moms do this on a more normal basis) It was pretty fun and special for us to have some one-on-one time together. And, honestly, not having to argue with her about how I did her hair was worth EVERY PENNY!

Plus, she looked so pretty. And grown up, which makes me a bit sad that time seems to be flying by. Such is life though!

And this guy just had a birthday. Isn’t he handsome? How lucky am I?!?

Photo Friday: Pinewood Derby Prep 2018

It’s hard to believe that it’s already almost Pinewood Derby time again for Boy Scouts. Last weekend Will and Garen headed down to Hamilton to work with YaYa (my dad) on this year’s model. Dad is the most detailed oriented man I know when it comes to this. It’s such a good example for Will. He also was an Eagle Scout so that makes it even more special.

Plus, it’s a great opportunity for them to use all of Dad’s toys in his shop. Garen caught some good photos of the two. I love how Will sticks his tongue out when he is focused on what he’s doing. Pretty cute!

Happy Photo Friday!

Photo Friday: I’m an Auntie

I actually don’t remember whether I’ve blogged about my new niece or not but she is an absolute doll. I got to see her again last weekend before the Odom family made their way back up North. She was baptized at my parents’ church over the weekend.

Unfortunately, Kate had some disgusting bug causing her to be snotty, feverish, and down-right cranky. Not really what you want to expose a newborn too. So the littles stayed home with Garen and I went to Hamilton to get a few more Harper cuddles in.

I took Garen’s camera and captured a few photos but I’m not nearly as good as Garen. Luckily, the cute baby makes up for it. Combine that with Garen’s amazing photoshopping skills and they turned out ok I think.

Did I mention my Mom made the most AMAZING Chantilly cake. For reals. Soooo hard to only eat one piece!

Happy Photo Friday! Stay warm, my friends!

Sweet Saturday: In the Kitchen

Today was a great day with the girls. They love to “pay kitten” (aka Play Kitchen). They’re very creative and I only had to retrieve one chewed up plastic French fry from Kate’s mouth. I call that a success.

People often ask if they get along well. And I always answer with “Eh.” Their personalities are very much their own, as are their looks but on occasion we will catch a few super sweet moments between the two sisters when they think no one is watching.

And it warms my heart!

As you can see, we moved their rooms around so that they now have Anna’s kitchen and table that she’s “too big for” now. If it didn’t make these two so happy that might make me a bit sad. Such is life!

Downstairs in the real kitchen, I’ve almost made it a whole week back on Weight Watchers. My goal is to get healthy and fit back into my old clothes, at least the few pre-twin pieces left after last year’s KonMari-phase cleared out my closet of anything that “I didn’t love.”

This year I’m not doing resolutions since last year failed so miserably. I think the Balanced app is a great idea but took too much time. I quit about a month in.

In 2018, I’m just trying to get back on track with goal setting and one of my goals is to get healthy. Weight Watchers has been good to me before. I lost 40 lbs in college.

And now I get to lose it all over again. What a great opportunity (typed in very sarcastic tone)! The good things is, Weight Watchers seems to have done some good updates and the app is super user friendly.

I’ll probably be finding all kinds of tricks to eat as much as I can for as little points as I can so stay tuned!

P.S. If anyone has any tips on replacing tasty coffee creamers with a low point alternative, PLEASE let me know!

Photo Friday: Fossil Rim

Garen took the bigs to Fossil Rim a few weeks back on his way back from Hamilton. Despite Will almost losing a thumb while feeding a very greedy Oestrich, they had a fantastic time. If you’ve never been to Fossil Rim in Glen Rose, it’s absolutely a Texas bucket list item!

It was a great opportunity for Garen to pull out his camera and capture these moments spent with our two oldest wild things and the rest of the wildlife.

Here’s a few of our favorite photos from their adventure:

Photo Friday: Sweet Holiday Memories with Sugar Cookies

A couple of weekends back, the kids helped me to make Christmas cookies. We had such a good time, even if my kitchen became a disaster zone and the control freak, perfectionist side of me struggled to let them decorate them however they wanted.

Garen caught a few good photos of us in action. Yes, I was brave enough to let Clara and Kate “help.” Sprinkles. Everywhere.

My Mom and my Grammy would always let us kids help decorate sugar cookies. Besides it being a great memory and fun (yet messy) activity, they actually taste really good. Here’s the recipe that my family uses. This is my Mom’s handwriting. I think. My Grammy wrote almost exactly like it. And it must be genetic because I write almost like it too!

This year I used a new icing recipe thanks to Pinterest. The recipe from In Katrina’s Kitchen was wonderful. It was tasty and hardened up for beautiful cookies just like her blog says it will. I’m not big on Crisco BUT it was good in this recipe. If you don’t use it and substitute with butter, you’ll get a similar effect but it won’t harden as well. If you’re not stacking cookies, that may not be an issue.

I hope each of you will take time to make some sweet memories of your own this holiday season! Tis’ the season to be busy with everything (which is why I’ve not blogged much) but I’m really making an effort to do things with our little (big) family that will create memories that they’ll cherish as well.

Happy Photo Friday before Christmas!
